Soho Strolls: Unveiling the Iconic Past of London's Vibrant Quarter Join me for a fascinating walking tour through Soho, exploring the captivating characters and events that shaped its vibrant history
About this Event

On this walk, you will learn about London's Soho on a captivating walking tour that traces its history. From its origins as a haven for immigrants to its emergence as a hub of political radicalism, creativity, and the arts, Soho's story is one of resilience, reinvention, and enduring allure.

Our journey begins amidst the grand Soho Square, which is the birth place of Soho as we know today and has had various historic figures stay there.

You will hear about the pioneering physician John Snow, who
revolutionized the field of epidemiology with his discovery of the Broad Street
pump, to the prodigious talent of Mozart, and the inventor of the television this neighbourhood has been a magnet for visionary minds throughout the ages.

We'll explore the origins of William Blake, and we'll see Karl Marx, whose presence looms large in the annals of Soho's history, from the meeting rooms of the Communist League to his dwellings nearby.

But Soho's journey is also one of transformation and evolution.
Once a prosperous enclave, the district has weathered periods of decline and
resurgence, grappling with the challenges of economic hardship and social
change. As we traverse its streets, we'll confront the realities of Soho's
decline from a once-thriving community to a less affluent area, grappling with
issues of poverty, crime, and social inequality.

It is a place of contrasts and contradictions, where high culture intersects with the gritty realities of urban life. From the glittering lights of the West End theatres to the dimly
lit doorways of the sex industry and its role as a haven for the homosexual community
in times gone by, Soho is a testament to the enduring power of creativity and
resilience.

Whether you're a history enthusiast, an aficionado of the arts,
or simply curious about the soul of London, our walking tour offers a
captivating glimpse into the heart of Soho's legacy and cultural
transformation.

The tour will start outside the entrance of Soho Place theatre, which can be found by exiting Tottenham Court Road Tube station using exit number 1,` and turning right as you exit into Charing Cross Road. The theatre is on the corner of the first street you come to on your right. Please try to arrive 5 minutes early to allow time for checking your details.
