About this Event
Join us to celebrate the launch of NOW Gallery's 2024 Fashion Commission Socks: The Art of Care and Repair by leading textile artist Celia Pym. Featuring live performances by singer songwriter Rozi Plain and DJ selections from Léna C X Loose FM.
Focusing on the concept of sustainability in fashion and our lives more broadly, Socks: The Art Of Care And Repair will celebrate the everyday act of mending through darning. Central to the exhibition will be a vibrant, colourful installation of 488 socks, each stitched and darned by the Surrey Square Primary School community in Southwark using industry ‘warehouse’ waste socks. Children, staff and families of the school, learnt and practised their darning and stitching skills on socks, during a series of 26 workshops facilitated by Pym in early 2024.
Learn the art of darning in sock mending workshops led by experts, kicking off a live programme of events taking place throughout the exhibition run at NOW Gallery, Greenwich Peninsula. Don't forget to bring your socks with you!

About Rozi Plain
Rozi Plain is a singer-songwriter from Winchester who makes delicate and beautiful pop music. Moving to Bristol to study art in 2006, Plain began collaborating with long-term friends Kate Stables (This Is The Kit) and Rachael Dadd among many others on a thriving local scene. It was there that Rozi made her first two albums, 2008’s Inside Over Here and 2012’s Joined Sometimes Unjoined, each works of deliciously sad and beautiful pop full of heart-wrenching harmonies dotted with unexpected instrumental flourishes. She has appeared at festivals including SXSW, Iceland Airwaves, Glastonbury, End of the Road, Latitude, BBC 6Music Festival, Green Man and Lost Map’s Howlin’ Fling. As a member of This Is The Kit, Rozi has also toured widely, including several dates around Europe opening for The National.
