About this Event

Please note: To join this workshop you or your business needs to reside within one of the following GM local authorities: Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Manchester, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside or Trafford, Wigan.

You also need to be: The owner of a business OR an aspiring entrepreneur with a business idea you want to develop.

Workshop Objectives

By the end of the session, attendees will:

  • Understand how to use social media as part of their wider marketing strategy.
  • Learn how to decide what to post and why — building a consistent message that aligns with their brand.
  • Learn all the little tips and tricks for making content perform well.
  • Gain confidence in using free and affordable tools to plan, create, and schedule content.
  • Leave with a practical framework they can adapt for their own business.

Introduction

  • The role of social media in modern marketing.
  • Common challenges small businesses face online.

Defining Your Approach

  • Understanding your audience and choosing the right platforms.
  • Deciding what content works best for your goals.

Planning & Creating Content

  • How to structure and plan posts that drive engagement.
  • Maintaining consistency without constant posting pressure.
  • Balancing promotional, educational, and community-focused content.

Tools, Scheduling & Engagement

  • Demonstration of useful apps and platforms for design, scheduling, and analytics.
  • How to engage effectively to grow trust and relationships, not just followers.

Q&A and Open Discussion

  • An opportunity for attendees to ask questions, share experiences, and get tailored advice for their own businesses.
  • Are you a startup entrepreneur or small business looking to create a website for your brand?

Join us for this workshop where you will cover the basics on website setup to implement best practice in your design.

Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring a laptop or portable device to the workshop to

follow the session.

We are able to provide our services and workshops for free because of the funding we receive from the UK government. In order to continue to provide these services free of charge, we need to provide our funders with information about the people we have helped through our services and workshops.

To ensure we have the correct information, please fill out the Generator Registration Form, or bring one of the following forms of identification with you to the workshop:

  • Your National Insurance (NI) number – if you have not yet registered a business
  • Your Companies House registration number or Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) – if you have registered a company with Companies House or are self-employed/sole trader registered with HMRC

Kindly note that we may not be able to admit you to the workshop without this information, so we strongly encourage you to have it ready on the day.


The Generator is a project with two vibrant enterprise hubs, located in St Peter’s Square, on the ground floor of the Town Hall Extension, and in Royal Mills in Ancoats. Our services include workspaces, events and workshops, 1-to-1 business information support, plus access to expert intellectual property and legal advice, and an introduction to our industry-standard business databases.
