Singer-songwriter slchld broke into the industry back in 2018 with the beautifully somber double single “as long as you’re okay.” Since then, he has continued to create a collection of tracks emphasizing hyper loneliness and feelings of despair. Moving from Korea to Canada after the first grade, slchld assimilated and adopted a more western identity, leading him to find most of his musical influences in old Korean music and more modern North American and European RnB styles. To a surface level listener, slchld’s music encapsulates slow, serious stories of love and heartbreak, but the true messages that hide behind his velvety vocals and calming melodies remain more doleful. He revealed, “When I write, I mask a lot. For instance, I might say something about a girl in a song, but the girl might be something else. A problem in a relationship might be about an addiction, or something that’s not healthy for everyday life.”
