About this Event
Consider this a way to pay homage to your favorite writers!
The Homage Slam is a 3 round competition just like any other slam we've hosted! EXCEPT, poets will recite there favorite poet's poem. But choose wisely because the goal is still to win.
Back in the day we used to memorize the poems of the greats! Let's pay respect to the lyrical lighthouses of our time. (If the poet is still alive, we ask that you get their blessings to honor their work as your selections for the slam)
This slam has a smaller cash prize, along with a guaranteed feature at an upcoming Friday Night Soul Showcase!
See competition rules below:
- 10 poets will compete for 3 rounds.
- Prep: Prepare 3 Poems (3 minute time limit)
- Elimination Rounds: Poets advance to the next round based on highest-ranked points from 5 judges (Round 1: 10 poets. Round 2: 5 poets. Round 3: 3 poets).
- Point System: For every poem, the top and bottom scores will be dropped. The middle-remaining scores will be added, resulting in the poet's score for that round.
