SKINNY LISTERAs music fans we’re only ever given fragments of lives well lived, and we scrabble vicariously through them. Skinny Lister, though, have really given us as much as they can since 2009. They’ve led an endless parade gathering fans old and new, from the respected folk circuit to riotous Download Festival, igniting pogoing mosh-puts at each. Over the past ten years they’ve traveled from rain-soaked London to the vast arteries of the USA, upgrading from narrow boat to Salty Dog Cruise, played huge tours across Europe and North America with Frank Turner, Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly as well as headlining themselves across festivals, sweatboxes and ever-larger venues.

The collection of songs on Vandoliers’ fifth album, Life Behind Bars, offers a window into front woman Jenni Rose’s journey through addiction and gender dysphoria – a journey that has culminated in her decision to come out as a trans woman while working in the macho worlds of Texas country and punk rock. Ten years into their career, the band’s latest work is as upbeat and sing-along ready as ever, but with a little more stripped-down and intimate feel than their typical fare, in addition to being lyrically more substantive and, at times, more politically pointed. Bars is fearless and fun, a bold entry in a musical space that is still too often hidebound by tradition.

Debutalbumet In The Mourning Light (2024) börjar färden vid countrymusikens rötter och tar oss sedan via 90-talets grandiosa poprock till det slutgiltiga målet, dagens blomstrande americana-scen. Det hela är en ljuv symfoni av vackra harmonier, dynamiska och kraftfulla arrangemang som innehåller allt från dragspel och dobro till hammondorgel och inte minst en stadig dos pedal steel.
