Abstract: What do you know about the star Sirius? Many of you will know that it's the brightest star in the night sky. Moreover, you'll probably know it's in the constellation Canis Major. However, how old is this star and how much longer will it live? What was the significance of this star to the Ancient Egyptians? In this talk I will take you on a scientific and cultural journey to learn more about the brightest star in our night sky.
Bio: Paul Curnow (B.Ed) is an award winning astronomer, teacher, and author. He is regarded as Australia's leading specialist on Australian Aboriginal constellations and star names, in addition to the wider field of ethnoastronomy. He has lectured both overseas and in Australia, and worked for the Adelaide Planetarium for the past 34-years.
