About this Event
Sgraffito Bauble Workshop
Join Nonsuch Ceramics for a festive exploration of sgraffito – a decorative technique widely used by ceramic artists, including contemporary artist Grayson Perry. This method involves carving designs through coloured clay slips to reveal the contrasting clay beneath. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to use a range of tools to scratch or carve through the surface layer, creating your own unique patterns and illustrations.
Working on two leather hard baubles premade by the instructor, you’ll be guided through each stage of the process and have the chance to experiment with coloured slips to create striking decorative effects. You’ll learn how to consider composition and the relationship between surface and form as you bring your designs to life.
Participants will have the option to have their work clear glazed or unglazed, and all materials and kiln firings are included. No previous experience is necessary – just come ready to get creative.
