Join us for a summer celebration with Paula Herrera, a well-known Chilian singer-songwriter who has been studying English at Literacy Chicago. In appreciation of her free classes, Paula has generously offered to donate all ticket sales to Literacy Chicago.
Funds will be used to print and compile a collection of 12 Civics lessons created by Literacy Chicago for the Adult Literacy class.
Literacy Chicago is a nonprofit organization that helps Chicagoans achieve greater self-sufficiency through language and literacy instruction. Classes range from basic literacy to GED preparation, ESL, and Citizenship. Literacy Chicago partners with many workforce skill organizations such as Revolution Workshop and Unite Here Chicago Hospitality Institute.
At the August 25 event, we're also going to raffle a wine-tasting in your home from Wines for Humanity ($250 value), a gift package of a bottle of wine and glasses from Literacy Chicago, and a $50 Uncommon Ground gift card!
MORE ABOUT LA PAULA HERRERA....
La Paula Herrera is a modern singer and songwriter from Chile living in Chicago. Paula takes inspiration from the folkloric root of the Southern Cone. Her music is written in a Spanish poetic language - mixing South American roots, pop, jazz, harmonies, latin beats and indie sounds. In February 2013 she won the Silver Gaviota for the best song in the Viña Festival in the folk competition.
