Sing Democracy 250 will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026 with a powerful message of hope for democracy through music that represents American history honestly, reflects America’s diversity, and calls all Americans to fulfill their obligations to America—to build together that more perfect union! The program opens with the world premiere of “Fanfare: Democracy 250” by Steven Amundson, Music Director of the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and long-time and celebrated conductor of the St. Olaf Orchestra. Two new choral works, “Redeem the Dream” by Brandon A. Boyd and “US” by Michael Bussewitz-Quarm, form the core of this national choral music project designed to engage singers and citizens to reflect on America’s history and their responsibilities as citizens, and empower them to get involved in renewing American democracy.
