Step into a fascinating baseball what-if with local author John Graf as he discusses his book, Simulating Satchel: A What-If History of Integrated Major League Baseball in 1934.In this engaging presentation, Graf explores an alternate history in which Major League Baseball integrated before the 1934 season, imagining what might have happened if Satchel Paige and nearly 100 Negro Leagues players had been given the chance to compete in the American and National leagues at the height of their talents. Part history, part simulation, and part “utopian baseball fantasy,” this program offers a fresh and thought-provoking look at the game and the players who were too long excluded from it.
Graf will also share the origins of the book project through a visual presentation and highlight local Beloit connections, including Satchel Paige’s barnstorming ties to the area and local family connections to players from baseball’s Negro Leagues.
