Musical Style: Modern JazzIn recent years, renowned NYC Jazz Pianist, Composer, Arranger, Percussionist, and Producer, Charles Blenzig, relocated from Astoria, Queens to Longmont, Colorado where he has formed an exciting new group, “Simple Math”, featuring some of the finest young Jazz Musicians in Colorado. The group has a unique, modern sound that comes from a mutual trust, diverse experiences, and magical chemistry. In the tradition of seasoned elders collaborating with the young bloods, this project seeks to blend the “was” with the “iz” for what’s to come with fresh new ides to celebrate the transcendent power of music on the human condition.
Charles has worked with The Gil Evans Orchestra, Michael Brecker, Gato Barbieri, Bill Evans (Sax w. Miles Davis), Jerry Bergonzi, Alex Foster, Ronnie Cuber, Randy Brecker, John Faddis, Lou Soloff, Mike Stern, Larry Coryell, Joe Beck, Lee Ritenour, Hiram Bullock, Toninio Horta, Vic Juris, Chuck Loeb, Adam Rogers, Roy Ayers, Joe Locke, Delmar Brown, Will Lee, Marcus Miller, Eddie Gomez, Mark Eagan, John Patitucci, Rufus Reid, Buster Williams, Dennis Chambers, Harvey Mason, Billy Kilson, Grady Tate, Kenwood Denard, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Terry Silverlight, Manolo Badrena, Victor Jones, Buddy Williams, Mike Clark, Dave Weckl, and many others. Charles is also the Musical Director for singer / songwriter Michael Franks, for whom he has recorded, produced, and performed all over the world. In 2007 Charles arranged an evening of Franks’ music for the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.
