The Sixth Annual Seattle International Dance Festival (SIDF) Winter Mini Fest is pleased to present live, in-person performances and a ten-day residency between Seattle-based Khambatta Dance Company (KDC) and Tchekpo Dance Company (TDC), an international troop combining African, Italian and German artists. Highlighting spontaneity, the Mini Fest features work created collaboratively between the two companies in a few days’ time between artists hailing from three continents as well as premieres by each company. This year’s Mini Fest brings the world of contemporary dance to Seattle’s doorstep, presenting four emotionally resonant performances over two weekends.
February 25 @ 8pm & 26 @ 7:30pm at Broadway Performance Hall (1625 Broadway - Capitol Hill)
Tchekpo Dance Theater presents the world premiere of Strangers to Ourselves a piece for four dancers, who deal with each other awkwardly, dismissively, contemptuously, or even violently, but also benevolently and full of appreciation. The multimedia dance piece questions the way we deal with ourselves, with xenophobia and racism. Khambatta Dance Company presents Strange Animals, which received a standing ovation at the 2022 Newport Dance Festival in Rhode Island and excerpts of a trio recently presented at Seattle’s Boost Festival.
March 3 & 4 @ 8pm at Erickson Theater (1524 Harvard Ave - Capitol Hill)
Khambatta Dance Company premieres Now What?, mixing spoken word, music and athletic movement, the piece contemplates the self-reflective introspection and enlightenment of a death/rebirth cycle. KDC will also collaborate with international guest artists, Tchekpo Dance Company, to create an evening of work born of artistic inspiration and spawned in just a few days time. The work will be titled just before the show.
Advance tickets to all performances are $25. Student tickets are $18. Two-Show Festival Passes are available for $45. Visit
