About this Event
Perfect if you’re bored of taking “nice photos” and want to start making exciting ones.
Ever wondered how photographers freeze a cyclist mid-air… or turn a busy street into dreamy streaks of motion?
This workshop is all about shutter speed, and how to use it creatively to make your photos feel alive.
We’ll meet at Leeds Dock, a brilliant location for experimenting with motion, reflections, architecture, and moving subjects, without the chaos of the city centre. The exact meeting point will be shared before the event.
What we’ll cover
- What shutter speed actually does (and why it matters)
- How to freeze motion properly
- How to create intentional blur (without it looking like a mistake)
- Panning techniques (that classic sharp subject + blurry background look)
- ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) for abstract, painterly images
- How to experiment confidently and stop “playing it safe”
What you’ll leave with
- A proper understanding of shutter speed (finally!)
- A set of creative techniques you can use anywhere
- A mini collection of motion shots you’ll actually be proud of
- New photography mates (because taking photos is better with people)
Who it’s for
This workshop is beginner-friendly, but also great if you’ve been shooting a while and want to break out of the “safe and sharp” rut.
It’s about experimenting, laughing at the fails, celebrating the wins, and leaving inspired.
Because photography shouldn’t feel like homework.
