A bold beer-and-oyster pairing experience celebrating local flavours.
This guided tasting brings together freshly shucked Tio Ōhiwa oysters with a curated selection of Mata beers. Guests will explore how different beer styles enhance the briny, full-bodied flavour of Ōhiwa oysters, including a signature “Oyster Shooter” for those keen to try something new. It’s a relaxed, intimate evening celebrating great local brews and seafood.
Tio Ōhiwa’s professional oyster shucker will guide you through each tasting, sharing stories about Ōhiwa Harbour, the shellfish farming process, and the unique flavour profiles of local oysters. After the guided tasting, guests can continue the evening at their own pace, ordering more oysters and discovering Mata Beer’s tap list with suggested pairing notes.
Adult tickets include a tasting flight of beer or cider and a six half-shell oyster platter with condiments. Kids’ tickets (under 15 years) include a Guzz Soda by Mata Beer.
This event is part of the Flavours of Plenty Festival, an annual celebration of the Coastal Bay of Plenty’s vibrant food scene. The festival runs from 16 April to 3 May 2026.
