Shovel Dance Collective ist eine Gruppe von neun Musiker*innen, die durch ihre Leidenschaft für die Schönheit, Kraft und politische Aufgabe traditioneller Musik Großbritanniens, Irlands und darüber hinaus verbunden sind. Ihre Musik erscheint wie ein Flickenteppich, bei dem Stücke zusammengenäht, neu arrangiert und rekontextualisiert werden. Das Garn ist durchzogen von ihrem Sinn für ästhetische Innovation und einem tiefen Verständnis dafür, wie traditionelle Musik den Unterdrückten eine Stimme gibt und jenen, die durch ihre Arbeit den Reichtum der Welt schaffen.
Neben ausverkauften Headliner-Shows in ganz Großbritannien und internationalen Festivals wurde ihr im Oktober 2024 veröffentlichtes und von Kritiker*innen gelobte zweite Album The Shovel Dance, wie das vorherige Werk The Water is the Shovel of the Shore, von The Quietus zum Album des Jahres gekürt.

Shovel Dance Collective is a group of nine musicians united by their passion for the beauty, power and political charge of traditional music from the UK, Ireland and beyond. Their music appears like a patchwork quilt, where pieces are sewn together, rearranged and recontextualised. The yarn is infused with their sense of aesthetic innovation and a deep understanding of how traditional music gives a voice to the oppressed and those who create the wealth of the world through their labour.
Alongside sold-out headline shows across the UK and international festivals, their critically acclaimed second album The Shovel Dance, released in October 2024, was named Album of the Year by The Quietus, as was their previous work The Water is the Shovel of the Shore.
