About this Event
Join us for a series of stitching workshops!
Discover the beautiful art of Palestinian Tatreez and add a touch of personalisation to your garment or homeware item. Let your garments tell a meaningful new story as you learn this ancient craft!
In this series of workshops, participants will have the opportunity to design their own small motif and apply it to their chosen garment or homeware item (you can bring clothes, cushion covers, napkins, tablecloths etc). You will learn the history and principles of tatreez, as well as essential cross-stitching techniques. Our experienced instructors will guide you every step of the way as you transform your pieces into unique statements. By the end of the course, attendees will have a personalised garment or homeware item, with enough knowledge to continue embroidering at home if your piece is not complete.
No prior experience is needed! We welcome beginners and enthusiasts alike. All materials will be provided, so you can dive right into the creative process. Please note that elastic materials are not suitable for this workshop. Bring along options like linen, cotton, or thin jean material, and we've got you covered!

THE TATREEZ COLLECTIVE
The Tatreez Collective are committed to documenting the cultural heritage of Palestine through the art of Palestinian cross-stitch. The word ‘tatreez’ is Arabic for embroidery, and while the term is used to refer to embroidery more broadly, in the Palestinian context it is understood to refer to cross-stitch. The Tatreez Collective is made up of two diasporic women of Middle Eastern heritage ultimately united by a love of Tatreez. They view their practice as a way to document and promote Palestinian heritage, as well as an important act of resistance in keeping Palestinian embroidery alive.
