Earlier in the day, our dancers will take to the streets of Lexington, KY for Shimmy Mob, a global belly dance flash mob that raises awareness and support for survivors of domestic violence. The celebration continues that evening with a vibrant showcase at 21c Lexington, featuring performances by shimmy mobbers and special guests.
GreenHouse17 is a nonprofit organization committed to ending intimate partner abuse and helping survivors rebuild safe, healthy lives. They provide 24/7 crisis intervention, emergency shelter, support groups, legal advocacy, safety planning, children’s safe exchange and visitation, housing and transportation assistance, and more, all through a trauma-informed care approach. Their main shelter sits on a beautiful 40-acre farm in rural Fayette County, where survivors can explore nature-based healing, build skills, and find community as they heal from abuse.
