About this Event
Join SheJumps, Cripple Creek BC, Weston, and Shred-it Sisters for a Women's Backcountry 101 talk in Fremont, WA December 9th!
Date: 12/9/25
Cost: $0
Curious about what backcountry skiing/splitboarding is? Wondering if you’re ready to start touring? Maybe you’re just getting started and still have questions.
SheJumps, Shred-it Sisters, and Weston are joining forces to offer a free Women and Nonbinary Backcountry 101 at Cripple Creek Backcountry-Fremont. The Backcountry 101 is intended to be an inclusive space to share knowledge and answer questions about how to get started in this sport.
This fun, informal evening aims to give you all the answers you need, to things like:
- How good do I need to be at skiing or snowboarding to start touring?
- How do I learn to avoid avalanches?
- What kinds of bindings do I need? (And how do they work?)
- Do I need a special pair of skis for this?
- How do I choose skins? (And how do I cut them?)
- What kind of pack do I need? Can I use my regular pack?
- What do I need to know about getting a beacon, shovel, and probe? What features matter for a beginner?
- How do I dress differently for backcountry skiing/riding versus the resort? Can I “make do” with the ski clothes I already have?
**BC 101 is not a technical course, and we won’t dive into things like how to perform an avalanche rescue.** But we will talk about how to get educated on such things. We will share our hard learned lessons on what gear is most important and where you could save some money. At the end of the evening, you will go home knowing what your next steps should be and maybe have met some new friends to take those steps with!
If you are already a backcountry tourer and are looking to meet some adventure buddies, you can join for our Backcountry Partner Finder Meetup at Project 9 Brewery December 2nd at 6pm.
