About this Event
After a sell-out premiere in Los Angeles, a BBC radio adaptation broadcast to great acclaim, and sold-out performances at Bewley's Café Theatre, The James Joyce Centre is proud to present Stewart Roche’s SHARD starring Neill Fleming.
You wouldn’t think it to look at him now but Spooner was once quite the whizz in finance. Good in presentations, great at crunching numbers, a real company man. But the veneer of success hides a desire for something different in life. So when offered the opportunity to join a community by the charismatic Kemp, he jumps at the chance. However, Spooner discovers more than he bargained for in his new surroundings, making him realise that some places on earth are not meant to be occupied. And in some places, nature has a will all of its own. . .
Now established as one of the most distinctive and powerful pieces of contemporary Irish theatre, SHARD continues to demonstrate the vitality and depth of modern Irish storytelling on the international stage.
‘Echoes of the Wickerman but a fabulous story in its own right…a first class piece of suspense.’ The Radio Times
'4 stars. . . Roche’s dark play is a different kind of horror. . . Fleming is totally convincing.’ Irish Mail on Sunday
‘A gripping Irish folk horror. . . Fleming is alarmingly good here and Roche delivers an awesome set up.’ Sunday Independent
