Ireland’s banking sector is operating in a period of profound change. The global economic and geopolitical environment remains increasingly volatile, technology is reshaping how financial services are delivered, and EU policy priorities are increasingly focused on competitiveness, resilience and the mobilisation of private capital.

Against this backdrop, BPFI’s National Banking Conference 2026 will focus on how banks can enable investment and support competitiveness to underpin sustainable growth, as the external environment evolves. From geopolitical pressures influencing trade and capital flows, to the role of banks in supporting households, financing business growth, and mobilising savings through markets, the conference will examine how banking activity translates macrolevel change into real economy outcomes.

Bringing together leaders from banking, Government, regulation and industry, the conference will provide a forum to consider the evolving role of banking in supporting investment and competitiveness in Ireland and across Europe, and the practical challenges involved in delivering for the economy as the external environment continues to shift.

Moderated by Bryan Dobson, key speakers on the day will include Minister for Finance, Simon Harris, Seamus Coffey, Lecturer in Economics, UCC and Chair, Irish Fiscal Advisory Council, Simon Coveney, Consultant, Geopolitical Strategy Unit; EYMichael Lohan, Chief Executive, IDA: Emma Cunningham, Assistant Secretary General with responsibility for International and EU Division, Department of Finance and Mícheál O’Keeffe, Director of Policy and International, Central Bank of Ireland.
