About this Event

On May 27 at 7:00 PM we will host animator and director Alexey Budovsky, who will give a lecture on pinscreen – one of the most time consuming and rare animation techniques in the world.

It was invented in the 30-s, its pioneers Alexander Alexeieff with his wife Clair Parker made only 6 short films in 50 years. Just a few directors have used a pinscreen since it was invented, mostly French and Canadian, but films are still made using this technique in our times, one even participated in the Oscar race this year. You will see 8 animated pinscreen shorts, made over the course of the last 90 years and will hear stories about people who made them.

Alexey Budovsky was born in Leningrad in 1975. At the age of 19 he moved to New York, where he graduated from Brooklyn College. In 2002 he began his career as an animation director. Since 2010 he has been living in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. In 2025 he was accepted as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The language of the lecture will depend on the audience (Russian or English).

Admission: $35

Please note that our venue is quite small, so we recommend purchasing tickets in advance to make sure you can attend.
