Olubukunola Ojoawo (Lola) is a mesmerizing and uniquely gifted poet. Hailing from a long lineage of storytellers and born into a history of orature, Lola has been weaving magic with her voice on and off the stage for many lifetimes. With a gentle romance that leaves audiences more tender than before, Lola unfolds the careful stories planted deep in her blood. Half poetic expose, half religious confession, Lola blesses the stage and her audiences with each poem. With years of experience working to create opportunities and spaces for Black and Indigenous youth voices in the city, Lola is intimately familiar with the many faces of love, loss, survival, and reunion in the city.
Madeh Piryonesi is a poet, but his allegiances are not clear, and occasionally writes prose as well. Being a multilingual person, he inevitably translates too. His works, in Kurdish, English and Farsi, have been published in a few places including Iran, Canada and Kurdistan. However, his favorite poems are the unpublished ones and those for which he hasn't yet found the right words. He is a professor in engineering and has to answer the question “what does engineering have to do with poetry?” almost on a daily basis.
