Welcome Springtime with this bright and flavorful menu designed by Chef Anna Dausman, owner and founder of Goodlands Food Co. Inspired by Özlem Warren’s Sebze: Vegetarian Recipes From My Turkish Kitchen, you’ll enjoy seasonally delightful vegetarian Turkish cuisine in the company of local painter Lucy Shaiken’s tender solo show Bookends.
Bookends is an exhibition about home and family, in which Shaiken captures the warmth and togetherness imbued in small, everyday gestures. Shaiken’s paintings capture scenes in warm hues and soft textures, and from intimate points of view: A table after a meal enjoyed, rendered pink and maroon by the evening; loved ones draped in familiar chairs; hands holding books, babies, other hands. “The paintings welcome [viewers] into a world of comfort and care as if they are warm and sleepy and have just finished a meal,” Lucy Shaiken says of the show.
During the evening, guests will have the chance to experience this world of comfort and care. Enjoy the opportunity to dine with members of Philadelphia's arts community, hear special insight from our exhibiting artist, drink a refreshing springtime cocktail and receive your very own copy of Sebze – all included in your ticket price. By joining us on April 18th, you’ll be supporting an organization that prides itself as an open door to all artists, makers and neighbors. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
ABOUT THE FEATURED ORGANIZATIONS
Binding Agents Nestled in Philadelphia’s culinary epicenter, the 9th Street Italian Market, Binding Agents is a bookstore for anyone who loves food. Founded in 2024, the shop specializes in cookbooks, offering an extensive collection of contemporary and classic titles for experienced chefs, aspiring home cooks, eager eaters who hate turning on the oven, and everyone in between. They also carry a carefully curated selection of food-focused reads, including delicious memoirs, craveable fiction, savory (and unsavory) history and scrumptious books for kids.
Goodlands Food Co. offers colorful, seasonally-inspired hot sauces for people who love flavor. Started out of a community garden plot in West Philadelphia's Woodlands Cemetery, Goodlands' 10 vibrant hot sauces range from the familiar (Maple Chili Garlic; Serrano Cilantro Lime) to unique (Rhubarb Habanero; Preserved Lemon; Jalapeno Dill Pickle). With so much variety, our hot sauces are a pantry favorite for creative cooks and food lovers alike.
As founder and owner at Goodlands, Anna Dausman is a lifelong food-lover, home cook, and mad scientist in pursuit of flavor. She lives in West Philadelphia.
DVAA Founded by 16 Italian immigrants seeking creative refuge, Da Vinci Art Alliance continues to connect diverse communities through art that challenges, empowers, and transforms. Approaching a century of service, we remain a vital force in Philadelphia’s cultural landscape, equipping artists to reimagine the future and confront today’s challenges.
