The North Manchester Public Library will host a ServSafe Food Handler Course led by Purdue Extension This course is for anyone who needs basic food safety and food handling training including home-based vendors, food service workers, volunteers, or others who work with food who only need the basic training. (This course is not intended for food service managers.) ServSafe Food Handler satisfies training requirements for HBVs outlined in Indiana House Bill II49. This program focuses on aspects including basic food safety, personal hygiene, cross-contamination and allergens, time and temperature, and cleaning and sanitation.
The cost is $40 per person and must be paid to Purdue Extension of Wabash County. The training fee includes a booklet and assessment. The Certificate of Achievement is valid for 3 years. A photo ID with signature is required to take the assessment. After passing the assessment, your Food Handler Certificate of Achievement will be documented with the National Restaurant Association with easy access at any time to look up and prove your training.
The course will be taught by Mindy Mayes, MPH. She is a Health and Human Sciences Extension Educator with Purdue Extension of Grant County. Although Health and Wellness is her specialty, she has a passion for Food and Nutrition programming. One such program is ServSafe, which she has been certified to teach since July of 2018.
