About this Event
Making the move to Denver, I've chosen to relaunch the Serenity Circle series.
This casual, intimate Open Mic Night for Suicide Awareness and Prevention is being held on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025 as a reminder that we need to all collectively keep marching forth, together, hand in hand, in support, in camaraderie, in love, and in solidarity.
The World Health Organization estimates that approximately 1 million people die each year from suicide.
Even though it may seem a morbid topic, we need to stop making talking about suicide so taboo.
It's been almost 2 years since I've hosted a Serenity Circle - since its origins, I have lost 2 friends to suicide. It's been over 20 years since I attempted to die by suicide while I was just a high school student... I am forever grateful that day, my attempt failed. Despite being severely depressed several times still in college and after college, I continued to chase my goals and follow my dreams and staying alive.
Suicide ideation can happen to anyone and everyone, for many different reasons...
Suicide is a desperate attempt to escape suffering that has become unbearable. Blinded by feelings of self-loathing, hopelessness, and isolation, a suicidal person can’t see any way of finding relief except through death. But despite their desire for the pain to stop, most suicidal people are deeply conflicted about ending their own lives.
Most suicidal individuals give warning signs or signals of their intentions. The best way to prevent suicide is to recognize these warning signs and know how to respond if you spot them. If you believe that a friend or family member is suicidal, you can play a role in suicide prevention by pointing out the alternatives, showing that you care, and getting a doctor or psychologist involved.
Talking to a friend or family member about their suicidal thoughts and feelings can be extremely difficult for anyone. If you’re unsure whether someone is suicidal, the best way to find out is to ask. You can’t make a person suicidal by showing that you care. In fact, giving a suicidal person the opportunity to express his or her feelings can provide relief from loneliness and pent-up negative feelings, and may prevent a suicide attempt.
That's why it's excruciatingly important for us to end the stigma, and be open and honest about our mental health.
You are invited to join in on Serenity Circle Denver, an open mic event on suicide prevention, offered on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025 from 4PM-8PM MST in person in Denver, Colorado (Venue TBA).
In this Serenity Circle event, participants will be sharing in 4-8 minute segments in an Open Mic event dedicated to suicide awareness and prevention.
You'll get a chance to witness people who are open to sharing and discussing mental health and suicide and wanting to learn about what you and others can do to offer support and prevent suicide.
We don't have to suffer alone, and we don't have to let our loved ones suffer alone.
Let's create more awareness about suicide prevention so we don't have to lose any more loved ones to suicide.
Thank you for your interest and participation in this Serenity Circle event.
With gratitude,
Jenney
