About this Event

In today's economy, with increasing costs, product shortages, etc. People are searching more eagerly for things from the "times of old" or the "good old days" and are yearning to move out of cities into the country and become more self-sufficient. Gardens, backyard chickens, canning, bread making are all becoming more and more common. How does one get started in all of this? We've come so far from knowledge of land and earth and how it can provide for us. It's become vital to work together to learn and teach ourselves in order to pass on our individual knowledge. This year, join us as we visit different families across the US as they share with us the different things they've done to become ever more self-sufficient.

Ethan Page is Faculty of Local Food and Agriculture at Central Wyoming College in Lander, Wyoming, where he runs a beginning farmer training and incubator program focusing on diversified vegetable production. The goal of the program is to train and incubate new producers in order to increase the resiliency of the local food system. Like most areas of Wyoming, the rural nature of Lander and the surrounding region means that food takes a long time to arrive by truck, and is prone to disruptions due to weather or supply chain issues. Since its launch in 2021, the program has trained over 20 new and aspiring producers, working to develop the regional food system from the ground up. In this session, participants will learn about the challenges rural communities face when it comes to food, how the college is trying to address these challenges, and how farm training and incubator programs work.

Announcing a NEW WAY TO DONATE! We are releasing 2020's Cuisine of Different Cultures E-Cookbook to you for a $10 donation towards Atlantic Institute. When you make your donation, the cookbook will be emailed to you the day of the program you are participating in. This cookbook is packed with over 15 creative recipes that launched us into the online world of our cooking demonstrations during the time of Covid. This was a time that all of us were coming together to learn how to cook something different and interesting with limited resources on hand so this cookbook is full of interesting recipes you will want to have by your side.

If you aren't into cooking like we are, we are still accepting and are super appreciative of coffee!
