In a world defined by constant self-documentation and digital presence, how do we reconnect with the image we hold of ourselves? Between video calls, social media posts, and the stories we craft for public view, our reflection often lives more on our screens than in our own sense of self.
Join illustrator and animator Maite Nazario for Self-Portraiture and Rediscovery, a free hands-on workshop that invites participants to slow down, look inward, and reimagine their own image through drawing. Using traditional and digital tools, Maite will guide attendees in reconnecting with self-image as an act of care and creative ownership.
Please bring your drawing tablet or digital tools if you have them; paper, markers, and colored pencils will be provided.
This workshop expands on Maite’s ongoing residency at the Public Art Futures Lab with MARTA Artbound, where they are creating a series of animations that transform community-submitted writings into vibrant visual narratives. Their project explores how public art can amplify unseen voices and reframe urban spaces as sites of shared cultural storytelling.
As part of their MARTA Artbound residency, Maite is using digital tools to illustrate, animate, and bring narrative life to community writing submitted through the Write Down the Line project in collaboration with LostintheLetters. These animations will be shared on MARTA stations, digital signage, and online - celebrating the voices of MARTA riders. The work uplifts everyday transit stories and encourages a creative writing practice for anyone who finds reflection and inspiration while riding.
