Seed Saving Workshop
22 March 2026
10am – 1pm
A fun workshop helping you save your most important seeds.
Vegetables, heirloom varieties, flower crops for flower farms, increase plants in your own garden, multiply rare or hard to find plants – whatever the reason, seed saving is fun and will save you lots of money in the future.
Have you had the best crop of tomatoes and want to repeat next year? Do you want to grow more flowers just like the ones you have? Including those you could even harvest and sell? Are you moving and want to take special plants for the future?
Learn basic techniques for collecting, cleaning, drying and storing seed. From vegetable to natives to flowering or general garden plants, seed saving can be fun, a cheap way to grow plants and is essential for the survival of heritage varieties of vegetables and unusual or hard to find plants.
The workshop will introduce participants to the fascinating and rewarding world of seed saving. Successful growing from seed starts at the very beginning, choosing the right plants for seed collection, harvesting at the right time, storing successfully so seed stays viable and providing any treatment to the seed needed to ensure good germination.
Learn how to grow strong plants from seeds, how to fertilise, when to pot up or plant out, or even which seeds should be sown directly in the garden for best success. We will explore factors which limit seed germination and how to address them, including organic methods for controlling snails and slugs!
Full morning tea provided by the SHBG Cooking Friends. Espresso coffee & herbal teas available, all included in the ticket price.
This workshop involves small group participation with practical activities. Participants will receive comprehensive notes and plenty of complimentary seeds to take home.
Book online now. Tickets limited to keep class size small.
