About this Event
WHAT?
See-Me-Appear is an immersive artwork created by Alexa Pollmann and Bine Roth of Studio Peut-Porter using advanced virtual production techniques ranging from virtual performance capture to augmented reality dreamscapes and ambient soundscapes.
The work invites visitors of Tatton Park, a Cheshire East Council National Trust Site, to engage with the virtual characters of women who lived at Tatton Estate during the 18th century. Their semi-fictional life stories and aspirations for future freedoms were developed in collaboration with a professional writer, a series of actresses and through conversations with Tatton’s historians and staff. These narratives unfold in the main rooms of Tatton Park’s Mansion: alongside handcrafted physical props and artefacts that serve as clues, visitors step into these other realities.
WHY?
See-Me-Appear invites visitors to rethink history. It encourages reflection on how the past is often recorded through narrow perspectives, overlooking women and other marginalised voices considered less important at their time. By imagining the little-known stories of Elizabeth, Beatrix, and Hester Egerton, the experience expands our sense of reality and offers an alternative to conventional historical storytelling.
