‘Safety Last’ 1923 Silent Film with Live Orchestra Safety Last! is a 1923 American silent romantic-comedy starring Harold Lloyd as a small-town man who moves to the city to make something of himself. While working as a department store clerk, he pretends to his sweetheart that he’s a big success. To earn quick money and impress her, he gets caught up in a publicity stunt that leads to the film’s famous climax: Lloyd dangling from the hands of a skyscraper clock, one of the best-known images from silent films. The exciting orchestral music by Robert Israel brings it all to life!
The silent film mixes romance, ambition, and is best known for its inventive stunts and suspenseful humor.
An interactive question-and-answer session will take place with guest speaker Suzanne Lloyd, the granddaughter of Harold Lloyd. Scheduled after the intermission, this session will respond to audience questions and offer deeper insights and will be open to all concertgoers.
