About this Event

About this Programme

Sea turtle conservation relies on scientific data to make suggestions on how to best protect them. But for conservation to actually happen, local peoples must be included to make sure they are not impacted or and become displaced from conservation actions. Join Rushan as he introduces us to the biology and ecology of the enigmatic sea turtle, and shares how conservation is the work with the people that matters more than the work with turtles.

This programme is targetted at a general audience, including teens and those aged 50 and above.

Please note:

Please note that presentation slides may be available during or after the programme, depending on the programme. Where applicable, only participants who attend the programme can have access to the slides via instructions given during the programme.

About the Speaker

Rushan is a PhD candidate at James Cook University in Australia and a MAC3 Conservation Scholar at Conservation International. He started life as a sea turtle biologist and transitioned into spatial ecology, where he has worked on satellite tagging projects in the Maldives. His work has now transitioned into conservation, where it has been made abundantly clear to him that the local people that live with turtles must be included and worked with are the most important factor for any conservation project to succeed.

About the Organisation

Conservation International’s global mission is to empower people to protect our most fundamental needs, such as food, water, and a stable climate for the benefit of all life on Earth. Building upon a strong foundation of science, partnerships and field demonstration, we help societies responsibly and sustainably care for nature and our global biodiversity for the well-being of humanity.

In Singapore, we are providing environmental education, university internships, and direct support to conservation science and research. Additionally, our partnerships with the private and civil sectors encourage environmental responsibility and sustainability.
