SCREEN WRITING 101: This workshop will introduce writers and film enthusiasts to essential techniques used in script composition so that they may have the tools to begin their own. We will discuss the written structure of the genre and explore how writers use language in creative, unique ways to make their story visual art. We will examine models from a broad spectrum of film archetypes—from drama to romance to science fiction. Included with festival passes or $5 suggested donation.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
Jodie Mortag, a true Wisconsinite, having labored numerous summers in the mozzarella factory, received her MFA from Wichita State University. Mortag is an associate professor of writing at Lakeland University where she teaches fiction, nonfiction, and screenwriting; organizes and hosts the annual Great Lakes Writers Festival, and serves as editor for the literary magazine Seems. Her work appears in Ruminate, North Dakota Quarterly, Counterclock, Fourteen Hills, Barnstorm, Stoneboat, Fractions, and Metal Scratches. Her short story “Nightcrawlers” was awarded first prize in Mikrokosmos’ 2024 fiction contest. She lives with her family just outside the Kettle Moraine State Forest.
