About this Event
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize, and six parallel prizes, at the Venice Film Festival 2025
On January 29th 2024, Red Crescent volunteers answer an emergency call. A six-year-old girl is trapped in a car under IDF fire in Gaza, pleading for rescue. While trying to keep her talking on the 'phone, they do everything they can to send an ambulance to collect her. Her name was Hind Rajab.
Kaouther Ben Hania, writer and director of the film, said: "I heard an audio recording of Hind Rajab begging for help. I contacted the Red Crescent and asked them to let me hear the full audio. It was about 70 minutes long and harrowing. After listening to it, I knew that I had to drop everything and make this film. I spoke at length with Hind's mother, with the real people who were on the other end of that call, those who tried to help her."
This critically-acclaimed dramatisation is based on real events and the telephone calls recorded that day.
