Cléo is suddenly faced with the prospect of death. During one hour and a half, she meets her lover, a pianist, a friend, then a soldier. Retrospectively, considered to have kickstarted the French New Wave or La Nouvelle Vague, she was associated with the directors that constituted the ‘Left Bank Cinema’ faction.Over the course of her career, we see the evolution of her ideas through her inquiry into feminism. Agnès Varda created a niche for herself by straddling the fine line between fiction and non-fiction in her films. Informed by her prior practice in still photography, she became known for her provocative, inventive, and unique way of filmmaking which did not conform to existing traditional conventions.
