About this Event
A 'scratch night' is where a writer or performer presents a rough draft of a project they've been working on to a live audience, and then receives their feedback!
So here's another thrilling line-up of artists to scratch some creative itches at the 4th edition of Scratch Berlin, Berlin's first and only scratch night.
Come watch, listen and opine!
Presenting:
- Wenches! by Maya LeRoux and Bianca Waechter
Medieval wenches and roommates, Bertegilde and Nortburga, have the revolutionary idea of starting a podcast, sparked by their general frustration of..ya know..being peasants... and women… in the Dark Ages. Yes, it’s absurd. Follow them on their journey of self-discovery.
Performed by Maya LeRoux, Bianca Waechter and Derya Celikkol. Join these three international actors creating and workshopping this play together before they premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.
- Down the Mineshaft by David William Hughes
In 2025 David will be 35 and his son 3; when he and his dad were those ages, his dad died. Through music and spoken word, Down the Mineshaft explores the lifelong impact of loss in early childhood, and the unsettling experience of becoming older than your own father.
David William Hughes is a musician and performing artist whose work combines music, comedy and historical research. David made his international debut in 2007 at the Montreux Jazz Festival and studied music at the University of Oxford. He has performed to critical acclaim with ensemble and solo projects across the US, UK, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Israel and Australia. www.davidwilliamhughes.org
- Play Lilly by Matt Schneider
The play follows Lilly, one of the most popular UFA actresses of the Weimar Republic. In 1933, she leaves for Hollywood with her boyfriend, an aspiring director. Her career on the rise, her boyfriend struggles to find success, and by 1935 asks her to return with him to Germany —now under Nazi rule...
Matt is presenting his first serious play for the theatre, having previously worked for a local BBC radio station. He directs, acts, and voice-acts in his own lessons. He teaches English and History at the SESB, a state bilingual school in Berlin.
