Join Domingo with RIP Repurposed for a live tarantula meet and greet and arachnid pinning session!
Saturday, June 27⋅5:00 – 7:30pm
5:00 PM: Meet and greet with live tarantulas from The Insect Asylum. Some are even up for adoption!
5:30 PM: Head to the classroom to pin your very own sustainably sourced tarantula or scorpion to take home. Size and species depends on what Domingo has available. All specimens are sustainably sourced. This two hour session is enough time for a beginner to pin one arachnid and a pro to pin 2!
You can purchase an additional arachnid as an add-on
Dry, Pre-pinned: a specimen that Domingo has posed and positioned, it is dry and ready to be unpinned and mounted ($55 each)
Dry, Unpinned: a dry specimen that has not been positioned or pinned at all. Will need a hydration/chemical treatment in order to pin. ($35 each)
Hydrated, Unpinned: a hydrated and pre-treated specimen that you can pin and/or take home. ($40 each)
Please be aware that if you're allergic to bees, there's a high chance you're allergic to tarantula urticating hairs- be mindful of that when handling.
What are urticating hairs? Urticating hairs arespecialized, barbed bristles found on New World tarantulas and various caterpillars, used as a primary defense mechanism. When threatened, the creature can flick these microscopic hairs into the air or rub them directly onto a predator, causing skin irritation, itching, and inflammation. Gloves and masks will be provided for the pinning session as there is a chance that some can rub off the specimen during the session. Long sleeves are encouraged.
