Elianny C. Edwards, Ph.D.
Dr. Elianny C. Edwards (she/her) is an educational and community psychologist. An interdisciplinary scholar, her research and scholarly expertise focus on racial equity in K-12 education and examines how race, gender, social class, and culture influence school climate and safety, critical wellness, and academic outcomes for Black youth and other Students of Color. Complementing her research, Dr. Edwards has contributed to initiatives like the Police Free LAUSD Coalition, an effort dedicated to centering the needs of Black youth to abolish school policing and reimagine school safety. She is a certified K-6 teacher with over ten years of experience teaching, mentoring, and directing out-of-school time programming for youth from underserved communities across the country. She has also provided instructional coaching and field supervision to preservice and first year public school teachers.
Dr. Edwards has led workshops on increasing school safety, addressing student trauma, and employing a racial equity lens within institutions. Her research has been featured in media outlets like the LA Times, NPR, EdWeek, and EdSource. She has published in esteemed journals like School Psychology Review and Leadership and Policy in Schools, and is an award recipient of the American Educational Research Association.
Dr. Edwards received her MA and PhD from the Human Development & Psychology Division at the UCLA School of Education & Information Studies, and her BA in Clinical Psychology and Child Development from Tufts University. She is currently an assistant professor of critical and decolonial psychology at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts where she conducts research and teaches across the Psychology, Education, and the Critical Race & Ethnic Studies departments and directors the Housing and Educational Equity Lab also known as HEEL at Holy Cross.
