About this Event
Create a unique and memorable scavenger hunt mystery for your favorite mystery fans!
In this 4-hour workshop, we will walk through the process together:
- Choosing the environment in which your scavenger hunt will exist - indoor, outdoor, road trip destinations?
- Setting your mystery in a story world - Dickensian England, the Clue mansion, your favorite vacation spot, Hogwarts?
- Highlighting what's most important to you in a mystery scavenger hunt - puzzles, riddles, family memories, inside jokes?
- How to turn those elements into clues
- How to present those clues - do you make a map, a list, a logic grid?
- Designing the big finale - what will the solution be, and how will you celebrate?
A good scavenger hunt can be simple or incredibly complex, but the best ones get to the heart about what you love doing with the people who share life with you.
We'll also discuss ideas for "wrapping" your gift and presenting it.
This hands-on virtual workshop is presented by Cortney Matz, the brains and brawn behind . She has designed dozens of games for families, coworkers, kids and strangers around the world.
This holiday season, instead of shopping for things, why not design your own unique mystery experience?
Some questions you may have:
- What if I can't attend the full four hours?
- Why is it so long?
- How much time will it take me to finish the project we start in the workshop?
For the best experience, it will be ideal if you can participate live - even for part of the time. The workshop will be recorded, so you can revisit any parts that bear repeating. But ideally, we will be working together and sharing ideas, then actually creating our scavenger hunt mysteries in real time.
This dedicated time is unique access to a skilled creator for brainstorming ideas, getting over hurdles, and pertinent advice on the experience you hope to create.
These four hours include periodic breaks for food, movement and other normal human needs.
Ideally, you will complete this workshop with a comprehensive plan for your scavenger hunt, as well as some next steps to gift it to your favorite mystery fans. It's best to allow another 2 or 3 sessions on your own to complete your hunt and test it.
In the workshop we'll also set up a means of supporting one another through completion of our individual projects (Facebook group, WhatsApp group, etc.) so you can share progress and continue getting support with any problems you encounter.
