As part the Heritage Open Days initiative in September, we will be exploring why St Mary’s Church was shot by muskets and cannons during the tumultuous days of the English Civil War. Join our exciting workshop to unravel the mysteries of the past! You'll learn how to spot and collect evidence of musket impact scars - those mysterious marks left behind on the church walls. Discover the truth behind legendary stories and get hands-on experience in telling apart real musket scars from natural marks on stone. Plus, you'll learn how to measure and assess these scars using special gauges! This is a fantastic chance to dive into Civil War history, explore historic church architecture, and even become a detective for a day. We’ll start with a fun, interactive talk at the museum, then head out to the church for an adventurous real-world test of your new skills. Come join us for a day of history, discovery, and fun facts you won't forget!
