About this Event
Birmingham Conservation Trust is leading on the restoration of the Golden Lion in Cannon Hill Park. Thanks to grant funding from Historic England and local funders, the Golden Lion will be brought back to its former glory. The tour will start with a short introduction to the history of the building, after which you will have the opportunity to go up the scaffolding. Accompanied by the site manager (Reynolds Conservation), you will hear about the work undertaken and the unexpected restoration dilemmas and repair challenges.
The tours take place on weekdays and contractors will be working on site. You will be able to see the work in progress and can ask questions. Because you are visiting a live construction site there might be limited access to certain areas. On arrival you will receive a health & safety briefing and hard hats and hi-viz will be provided. Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather.
Please note that this tour will involve climbing two sets of stairs onto the scaffolding and requires a reasonable fitness level to do this. You will also need to duck under, and move around, scaffolding poles. You must therefore be physically fit to participate in the tour and must disclose any relevant medical conditions prior to arrival. You will be asked to sign a liability waiver issued by the contractor prior to taking part in the tour.
Participants on the tour must be 16+ years old.
The tour will start in front of the Golden Lion, on the main path in the park. Your visit will last 45 minutes to an hour.
All ticket income from the scaffolding tours will go towards the restoration of the Golden Lion.
Each tour is for a very limited number of people. If you find that the tours are fully booked, we might be able to add your name to a waiting list. Please email - [email protected].
