Join authors Al Barna and Randall Ann Homan for an illustrated tour of San Francisco’s historic neon signs and the growing movement to save them. San Francisco has an impressive array of classic signs that light up the night. Vintage neon is most often found on legacy mom-and-pop businesses: dive bars, bakeries, cafes, cinemas, and restaurants in almost every neighborhood. Highlights of the talk also include the history of neon and local preservation success stories that have given new life and light to some of the City’s most popular neon landmarks.�
Husband-and-wife team Al Barna and Randall Ann Homan are the authors of three books about neon: San Francisco Neon: Survivors and Lost Icons, Neon Icons from the Archive, and Saving Neon: A Best Practices Guide. They are the producers and hosts of the annual International Neon Speaks Festival & Symposium. Through the fiscal sponsorship of the Tenderloin Museum, they formed the tiny advocacy organization SF Neon to help preserve the artistic legacy of historic neon signs via talks, tours, events, sign design, consultations, and books.
