The event serves as the official launch of a NEW report exploring the vital role smoke-free products play in improving oral health. Convened in a 75-minute format, the conference highlights the importance of integrating harm reduction strategies into public health policy to address gaps left by traditional tobacco control measures.
The lead speaker, a Professor of Dentistry and the report’s primary author, opens with insights into the WHO’s strategy on oral health, emphasising how tobacco control alone has proven insufficient in reducing oral diseases. By integrating harm reduction, policymakers can help reduce oral cancers and premature deaths linked to tobacco use.
The subsequent panel presentations, featuring experts in dentistry and public health, dive deeper into the data. They cover how switching from combustible tobacco to smoke-free products can drastically lower the risk of oral cancer and other tobacco-related diseases, advancing oral health outcomes beyond what has been achieved by tobacco control alone.
An additional theme will be discussed: do we maintain the status quo of tobacco control, or do we explore another world where tobacco harm reduction is a reality?
Which areas of research need to be explored?
Add to the discussion and reserve your seat.
