For the June instalment of SATURDAY NIGHT ROCKERS we are very proud to play host to the triumphant homecoming of multi-instrumentalist ... 3-time Juno Award Winner ... and 2-time Much Music Video Awards winner DEVON MARTIN (aka Mr. Metro)!
Raised in Malton, ON - Devon's mark on the Toronto reggae scene started in the early 80s as part the 20th CENTURY REBELS and served as a backing musician for Bong Congo Nistas, Messenjah, Judy Mowatt & Lillian Allen.
In the 1990, his political hip-hop cross-over tune Mr. Metro got him wide acclaim and made him a household name in the Toronto music scene.
He relocated to Vancouver in the late 90s, but continued playing, recording and producing great music.
This show sees Devon returning home with two great sets of reggae and reggae-adjacent music, with the backing of the mighty FULLA SOUND band and another local legend, DJ CHOCOLATE!
As always, Toronto's Dub Poet At Large CLIFTON JOSEPH will be your MC for the evening ... and we will have an extra special appearance by Devon's brother - Toronto comedy royalty - MR. JAY MARTIN!!
This night is simply jam packed with bona fide trailblazers of our amazing local scene - it truly will be a night to remember!!!
