Satan:Satan is a British heavy metal band that formed in 1981 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. They are known for being part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement, which also gave rise to bands like Iron Maiden and Saxon. Satan distinguished themselves with melodic, fast-paced guitar work, technical musicianship, and lyrical themes often centered around social and philosophical issues rather than the occult, despite their name.
Their influential debut album, Court in the Act (1983), is widely regarded as a cult classic and a major influence on both speed metal and early thrash. The band went through several name changes and lineup shifts in the 1980s, including performing as Blind Fury and Pariah, but eventually reunited under the Satan name in the 2000s with their classic lineup.
Since their reunion, Satan has released several well-received albums, including Life Sentence (2013), Cruel Magic (2018), and Earth Infernal (2022), continuing to earn respect for staying true to their traditional metal roots while maintaining a high level of technical skill and songwriting.
