Join Sarah Plum for a celebration of the release of her latest record, an expanding distance of multiple voices, on April 3 at The CheckOut, featuring selections from the album alongside previews of upcoming projects. The evening highlights Plum’s career-long advocacy for contemporary voices, featuring a roster of distinguished collaborators from Chicago’s premier ensembles.
The program includes the sole duo track from an expanding distance of multiple voices, Mari Takano’s Elegy for Two Violins, performed with violinist Yvonne Lam (formerly of Eighth Blackbird). Expanding beyond the album's solo tracks, the concert includes guest appearances by pianists Dror Baitel and Shi-An Costello in duo works by Osnat Netzer and Tonia Ko with Plum.
The second half of the program offers a first look at Plum’s next major project: the string quartets of Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen, a student of Ligeti and a vital figure in his own right. For a performance of Abrahamsen’s String Quartet No. 3, Plum will be joined by an elite ensemble including Mathias Tacke (former second violinist of the world-renowned Vermeer Quartet), Cathy Brubaker (Chicago Symphony Orchestra), and Isadora Nojkovic (Mycelium).
