The SANCTUARY SEEKING SINGERS event is back again for the second year at Chapel Allerton Arts Festival with a special in concert performance by Ushingi!
Ushingi! is a Leeds based musical community bringing together people with lived experience of involuntary displacement and forced migration. A group of sanctuary and solidarity welcoming all people regardless of their legal status.
Ushingi! will perform as an ensemble and feature performances from individual group members accompanied by musicians from Leeds based Funk and Hip-Hop group: Brand New Bag.
Many sanctuary seeking singers have come to the UK from countries across the African and Asian continents and are now living in our region. These people have an important story to tell about their experiences in their home country, their journeys to the UK and/or their new life in West Yorkshire.
