About this Event
Sanctuary: A D-Compressed Gathering
Inspired by the Silkroad's newest program, Sanctuary: The Power of Resonance and Ritual, this collaboration between Silkroad and D-Composed invites audiences into a deeply reflective musical experience where sound becomes a space for gathering, healing, and shared humanity.
At its heart, Sanctuary explores how music helps us understand our world, process loss, and rebuild community through collective listening and participation. Rooted in global traditions where ritual and resonance foster connection and even states of trance-like peace, the program reframes performance as a communal act—one where audiences are partners in meaning-making rather than passive observers.
Joining this ethos, D-Composed brings its powerful mission of celebrating Black culture and creativity through the music of Black composers while intentionally crafting experiences that are inclusive, culturally reflective, and community-centered. Through storytelling, education, and reimagined classical performance spaces, D-Composed works to reshape how audiences see themselves within classical music traditions.
Together, these visionary ensembles create a sonic landscape where global musical traditions and Black musical legacies exist in dialogue—honoring ancestry, resilience, and the transformative power of shared sound. The collaboration centers music as ritual: a practice of listening, remembering, and imagining futures rooted in care, equity, and belonging.
