Samana - Wednesday 13th November - St Laurence's Church Hall - Stroud+Daniel Inzani
November 13th brings an all artist curated event run by our imprint The Road Records, where SAMANA will be bringing an intimate carnation to listeners, with piano, guitars, Bodhran and Vocals, along with string accompaniment, offering an evening of profundity, set in the sacred circle of the round.
Our mission is to deliver a magnificently transcendental and immersive sonic and atmospheric experience, breaking down the performer/audience barrier, easing all into the soft, embracing ambience of a living room. Emphasis is placed firmly on the sonic deliverance of the music, offering a binaural soundscape held within the spaces we inhabit. All such realms constitude towards a fully immersive state of interconnectedness, where the ethereal and the emotional realms fuse.
Our imprint 'The Road Records’ is on a mission to achieving artistic sustainability for uncompromising artistry in what is presently an incredibly challenging climate for independent artists in the UK. This means that once venue hire and artist expenses are taken care of, all ticket proceeds go directly into the pockets of the crew of 6 artists, enabling the evening to be infused with magic and helping the continuation of more tailored and special events for the future.
The success of our sold-out UK 'In Tune With The Infinite Tour' this June, in support of our eponymous release of our third record, has prompted a run of UK dates this November to meet the demand for what has been a profoundly moving and effective model in delivering grassroots music directly to audience members.
Daniel Inzani
Self-taught pianist and composer Daniel Inzani has been a pivotal figure on the Bristol scene for more than a decade. He leads a neoclassical outfit,Spindle Ensemble, co-curates the excellent Hidden Notes Festival in Stroud, and he’s worked with a baffling array of outfits, playing Ethiopian funk, Indonesian gamelan, rocksteady, 1950s-style exotica and post rock, as well as working closely with fellow maverick musicians Alabaster DePlume and Cosmo Sheldrake. His diverse escapades have led to a prolific discography, performances all over the world and a singular compositional voice; born from extensive harmonic and rhythmic experimentation with live ensembles and his idiosyncratic approach to music theory, informed by his studies of mathematics and modal jazz, combined with his passion for impressionist era music.
"There is a narrative logic to Inzani’s compositions that is compelling, heart-rending and gloriously disturbing. Someone give this guy a movie soundtrack immediately."

Samana
"Samana's music is centred around an emotionally raw and magnetic delivery of a shamanic and cinematic proportion, offering a passage to transcend into worlds unseen. Evolving along multi-disciplinary lines, Samana possess a unique spirit born from a nomadic lifestyle, a participation in Celtic ceremonies and their deep affiliation with the natural world. The duo own a creative, analogue production house born from their Georgian small-holding in the deep corners of the Welsh Countryside, from which is born their anthropological excavations, conjuring layered narratives that address concepts of dreamtime, death, transcendence and collective consciousness."
“The spiritual grounding between Rebecca Rose Harris and Franklin Mockett drives this strident blend of slowcorre, blues and yacht rock, with melodic surprises and ghostly vocal. Morricone meets Cowboy Junkies on ‘Into The Blue’, while ‘The Knife’ feels like a lost goth classic”

“Musically, the duo cleave to a gothic-leaning, string-infused spectacle blurring the boundaries between Dead Can Dance, Mazzy Star, Nico and sigur rose at the point of their international breakthrough. Then, add in dashes of freak-folk, John Martyn, the intensity of Judee Sill’s “The Donor” and Led Zeppelin’s folk-inclined explorations c. Led Zeppelin III.The nine tracks of Samanabeckon you into their world in the same way tendrils of fog surround, and then lead astray, an unsuspecting traveller. Samana sound as entranced as the cast Werner Herzog hypnotised while directing Heart of Glass”
