About this Event
Join us under the stars and carnival lights of the Shipyard for an evening of Hi-NRG dance bangers and ukulule welschmerz (ukulele + beats + 80s melancholia) with Safety Bear and Sad Veiled Bride. We'll also have works by visual artist Kelsey Joyce on display.
Safety Bear is an independent Hi-NRG electronic artist who weaves together pulsing dance beats and immersive atmospheres with subject matter typically alien to the dance floor. Safety Bear’s energetic live performances and studio recordings deliver original Hi-NRG bangers (and the occasional re-imagined dance classic) via the intriguing guise of a neurotic (and slightly injured) teddy bear. Safety Bear’s first full length album, We Live from Day to Day, will be released on vinyl this summer.
Sad Veiled Bride is a solo endeavor from Bev Stanton, whose electronic project Arthur Loves Plastic has been featured in the background of late night cable TV programs. Sad Veiled Bride blends acoustic and electronic elements to create introspective soundscapes that lead the audience on a journey through personal grievances and ennui.
We'll also have the work of visual artist Kelsey Joyce on display!
The Shipyard is a DIY venue in Silver Spring with a donation door. Donations are split between the musical artists and Abodes Joy, a MD-based nonprofit that trains and empowers diverse learners – women, nonbinary folx, and transgender people – in home repair to build skills, confidence, and community. https://www.abodesjoy.org/
